Adopting

Adopting a pet is huge responsibility, this is a commitment to take care of another life for upwards of 18 years. Please make sure you are ready for this before filling out an adoption application.

Here at Puca’s Pack we work with each dog, for at least 3 weeks, before adopting them out. We take our time to find out their behaviour issues and do our best to revert those behaviours. Our certified Dog Psychology and Behaviour Modification specialist works with our dogs until we feel they are fit for a new home. Each dog gets daily exercise, mental stimulation, and lots of obedience training. We work on boundaries to insure the dogs have a good understanding of what is expected of them before they leave our home.

On the day of adoption, one of our team members will walk you through the basic training and commands we use with your new dog to insure you have the best chance for success. This day will consist of 1-6 hours (depends on the dog) of training methods used on your dog, success and failure stories, introducing the dog to your house and family, multiple structured walks, and much more. We will go our separate ways once everyone feels comfortable.

Puca’s Pack is committed to our dogs and encourage all adopters to stay in contact with us. We are here to help you work through training issues that may arise after adoption. We will do everything we can to help you and your furry friend live a happy life together.

Should the adoption not work out, we require, as per the signed Adoption Agreement, that the dog be returned Puca’s Pack. However, we do expect that anyone who adopts one of our animals is willing to work through any behaviour issues that arise (within reason). Our help and support is always available to you for the life of your dog.

Meet Peter

Name: Brownie

Age: 4 year old

Breed: Whippet Mix

Sex: Male - Fixed

Vaccinated: Yes

House Trained: Learning

Energy level: Active and Playful

Dogs: I Love all Dogs

Kids: Good with kids

Cats: I Like Cats

A little bit about me:

Meet Brownie!

Brownie’s story is one of incredible resilience and transformation. Rescued from a high-kill shelter in California, this 4-year-old Whippet mix has blossomed into a joyful, curious, and affectionate companion.

When Brownie first arrived, fear dictated his actions he would retreat to a corner of his kennel, growling softly to feel bigger than he was. But his behaviour was all show, beneath the fear, he was a dog yearning for connection. With patience and encouragement, Brownie’s true personality has emerged. Now, his tail wags enthusiastically, and his eyes light up whenever he sees someone he trusts.

One of Brownie’s most remarkable achievements is his progress on a leash. Just weeks ago, he would buck and resist, earning him the nickname “Bronco.” Now, he confidently prances on walks, his tail wagging with every step. His recall is phenomenal. While sudden movements can still startle him, Brownie is learning to trust and stay close.

Brownie’s adventures extend to car rides, where he curls up into a tiny ball and naps peacefully. His intelligence and eagerness to please make him highly trainable, seamlessly transitioning from excitement to relaxation with simple commands.

Brownie absolutely adores his dog friends, playing with boundless enthusiasm and joy. He’s also made tremendous progress working with volunteers and kennel staff, showing how quickly he adapts to new people. A week ago, only one person could handle him; now, he’s sharing his playful, lovable side with many.

As he continues to come out of his shell, Brownie is learning to express himself through excited barks and wiggles. While he may not be suited for a quiet household, his joy and energy are infectious. He needs someone who will celebrate his progress, provide him with structure and patience, and let him explore his newfound personality.

Brownie is currently in a foster home, where he’s learning the ins and outs of living in a home environment. Ideally, he’d stay on the North Shore, where we can continue supporting his transition.

If you’re looking for a loving, adventurous companion who’s eager to connect and grow, Brownie is the dog for you.

Name: Ike

Age: 4 Years Old

Breed: Chihuahua Mix

Sex: Male - Fixed

Vaccinated: Yes

Crate Trained: Yes

Energy level: Ike is loving, playful, and extremely interactive! He adores playing, cuddling, and going for long walks. But he hesitant of people at first.

Dogs: I love all Dogs

Cats: has not been tested

A little bit about me:

Meet Ike

Ike’s journey is one of resilience, transformation, and the undeniable power of love and trust. Originally rescued from a high-kill shelter in California Ike was brought to Canada where he had spent three years waiting for a home. With little human interaction or training during this time, he was become a less desirable dog by the day. Today, Ike is proving that he is far more than his past and is ready to show the world what he’s capable of with the right guidance.

We know Ike is not a dog for everyone, he’s for someone ready to embark on a journey of growth, patience, and incredible reward. While initially reserved and cautious around new people, you’ll see his curiosity peek through as he works up the courage to engage. A gentle sniff, a moment of observation. Each step forward with Ike is a victory that fills your heart.

He thrives with other dogs and uses them to build up his confidence.

Ike has made great strides in trusting the leash, a symbol of connection that once terrified him. Now, with consistent effort and love, he’s learning to embrace it as a pathway to new adventures. Ike loves going on pack walks with his fur friends as well as going on one-on-one walks with our volunteers.

The progress Ike has made in such a short time is remarkable. When I first brought him in he was reactive to the leash so we had to use a muzzle. Within days, I saw his behaviour shift, and since then, every walk and every training session has strengthened our bond. Ike is now a dog that anyone can walk once the leash is on. He still has moments of doubt and lives in uncertainty but his determination to move forward is awe-inspiring.

Ike is not just a dog; he’s an opportunity to build a relationship rooted in trust, respect, and love. For the right person, Ike will be the most rewarding companion. If you’re willing to put in the time and effort, you’ll find a dog who gives you everything he has, making every milestone in his journey feel extraordinary.

Name: Tonka

Age: 4 Years Old

Breed: Terrier Mix

Sex: Male - neutered

Vaccinated: Yes

Energy level: Affectionate and eager to be with his person

Dogs: I Like Dogs

Kids: Not Suited for a house with kids

Cats: Not testing

A little bit about me:

Tonka is a 4-year-old rescue with a heart full of love and a journey that deserves a happy ending. He’s one of seven dogs rescued from a high-kill shelter in California, who then spent years on a property in British Columbia, waiting for a chance at a forever home. While they weren’t unhappy, these dogs lived in a small pack without the socialization or opportunities to experience life as cherished family members. Misunderstood and labeled as "feral" or "lost causes," they’ve been overlooked for far too long.

When Tonka first arrived with us, he was overwhelmed but still open to connection. By the third day, he began trusting me, joining pack walks, and seeking cuddles. However, his past has left him with insecurities, especially around being leashed. Once on a leash, he thrives—tail wagging, eager to explore, and showing incredible potential. But the process of getting leashed leaves him feeling vulnerable, causing him to act out in fear.

Tonka needs a confident and patient adopter who’s willing to help him work through his insecurities. He’d do best in a home with another dog, as he feeds off their energy and adores having canine friends. His future family must understand that while he’s bursting with love, the first few days will require patience and structure. A muzzle might help initially for your confidence and his safety, but with clear expectations and consistent guidance, Tonka will come to trust you as much as he trusts me.

Despite his rough beginnings, Tonka craves connection. He greets me with excitement, tail wagging, and a longing to be close. He loves pack walks, cuddles, and attention but needs someone willing to help him feel safe. He might be hesitant at first—circling or rolling onto his back when approached—but his enthusiasm to please shines through.

Tonka is fixed, fully vaccinated, and healthy. He’s not for the faint of heart but is absolutely not a lost cause. He needs someone with the determination to push through his discomfort, the confidence to lead him, and the faith to know he can succeed.

I’m committed to supporting Tonka’s new family with training, whether daily, weekly, or as needed. This boy has so much love to give, and with the right person, he’ll flourish.

Are you ready to take a leap of faith and give Tonka the life he’s always deserved? If you think you’re the one to help him build confidence and conquer the world, please reach out. Like, share, and comment on this post to help us find Tonka his perfect match. Let’s give this sweet boy a chance to show what an incredible companion he can be.

Name: Pickles

Age: 7 Years Old

Breed: Chihuahua Mix

Sex: Male - Neutered

Vaccinated: Yes

Energy level: Active and Playful

Dogs: I Love All Dogs

Kids: Good

Cats: Good

A little bit about me:

Ladies, forget about toxic relationships this holiday season, Pickles is here to fill your life with unconditional love, snuggles, and zero red flags. This 7-year-old Chihuahua has been waiting three years for someone to recognize he’s the ultimate boyfriend material. And honestly, who wouldn’t want a low-maintenance guy that loves true crime documentaries, and doesn’t mind if you leave him home while you go to work, school, or out with friends?

Pickles’ journey hasn’t been easy. He was originally surrendered to a kill shelter in California before being rescued and brought to Canada, where he’s been waiting far too long for someone to love him. Despite everything, Pickles has stayed hopeful that his forever person is out there and we think it just might be you.

Pickles is the perfect dog for anyone who wants the companionship of a pup without the 15-year commitment. He’s all about cozy nights on the couch, rocking his favorite Christmas sweater, and letting you eat all the snacks (he’s not the jealous type). He adores his crate, so if you’ve got a packed schedule, don’t worry Pickles is happy to snooze the day away until you’re back for cuddles.

When you first meet him, Pickles might be a little shy. Like any good gentleman, he’s not one to rush into things. But once he warms up to you get ready for endless devotion and adoring stares that even your ex couldn’t fake.

Pickles has had a major glow-up since joining us. He went from being scared of a leash (seriously, he was doing alligator rolls) to walking like an absolute pro. Backyard time or a strolls around the block? He’s down for either. And while he’s still brushing up on his house manners, he’s eager to learn and make you proud.

If you’re looking for a cuddle buddy to keep you warm this winter, ditch the dating apps and say yes to Pickles. Save him from another year in a kennel, and in return, he’ll give you a lifetime of love, laughter, and Instagram-worthy moments (seriously, can you imagine him in a Santa hat?).

Name: A-Zeus

Age: (02/20/2018) - Estimated

Breed: Pointer mix

Sex: Male - Neutered

Vaccinated: Yes

House Trained: Yes

Energy level: Affectionate, Active and always ready to play

Dogs: I Like Select Dogs

Kids: I Don't Like Kids

Cats: Not Tested

A little bit about me:

I am adorable but I've been waiting for over 2 years for my furever family.

Foster update: Zeus is an adorable dog. He’s goofy, smart, easily trained (with food or praise), likes to be a good boy, potty trained, and good on leash (if he knows you’re the boss). But what is so endearing about Zeus is when he cocks his head to listen to what you are saying, his expressive looks and how much he loves to cuddle. He is also compassionate. We had a friend babysit him while we were out of town. She was going through some stuff and told me that whenever she was crying, Zeus would snuggle up to her and lick her tears away. Although he is not a barker, he will alert you if someone is at the door or he hears an unrecognizable sound. Sometimes he will bark in response to our neighbor’s barking dog but will stop when told to. It’s hard for him to contain his excitement when it’s meal time, when he knows he’s going for a walk or a ride but he can settle down when you tell him to sit and stay. Zeus’ repertoire is sit, stay, out, off, shake and heal. We have taught him sit for his meals and wait until we say okay for him to start eating; to stay out of the kitchen when told to and; don’t go up the stairs until called.

Zeus is our 32nd foster dog and he is one of our favorites but we’ve had him for a long time because he doesn’t interview well. He gets excited when meeting new people and begins to do a little mouthing (never bites), which people mistake as aggression; but after a short time, he will settle down, loose interest and become the laid-back dog that he is. He would like a home with active people and a good sized, fenced in yard (for his zoomies). He is not good with small children. He gets along with most other dogs. If you are looking for a loving and protective companion, Zeus is your boy.

Application.

Please keep in mind that there may be multiple applications for a single dog and that even if your phone interview and home check (due to Covid we are asking for a video tour of your property) are successful, there is no guarantee that you will be matched with the dog you have applied for. We can always keep your application open for a future dog, if you are not accepted the first time. It can be a difficult decision for us, that we don’t take lightly.
